| Furnace Exhaust Fume Hood |
|
| The exhaust hood in a Basic Oxygen Process furnace leaked and had to be replaced immediately. A new, larger crucible was planned for future installation. The new hood, positioned to accommodate a future, larger crucible, would leave a larger gap above the present crucible. Would the new hood properly exhaust fumes from the present crucible? CFD analysis of the proposed installation predicted flow patterns, velocities, and species concentrations. The analysis showed that the new hood would exhaust gases safely, as observed in the plots to the right. |
