| A Combination of Analysis Techniques is Used to Develop an Optimized Cooling Design |

| ASC worked with Ford Motor Company to develop a new manufacturing process for hot forged connecting rods. In order to avoid secondary heat treating operations, the cooldown rate of the newly forged parts had to meet specific criteria. A combination of techniques was used to meet this goal. |
Lumped-capacity analyses were used to define the required convection cooling rate, and CFD analyses were used to design the cooling equipment. The cooling concept was verified through field testing with a prototype cooling device. |
