One element of biotech processing involves agitation to minimize thermal and concentration gradients within a fluid. Because species conservation is part of the numerical procedure, concentration gradients can be quantified. The mixing in a cylindrical tank with dual, offset impellers was modeled as shown. The time-dependent response of a pH meter to the addition of a base was calculated. The base was added towards the top of the tank and the meter was located towards the bottom. Good agreement with experimental data was achieved. |
