Primary Air/Fuel Balance
Coal Conduit Modeling Strategy
- Create a numerical model of the coal piping network. The pressure loss characteristics of each geometry element (conduit length, bend geometry, elevation change, flow restrictor, etc.) are included in the model. The pressure loss parameters include effects of the coal loading (i.e., two-phase flow). The model is represented schematically as shown below, in similar fashion to an electric circuit.
- Using a computerized solving routing, calculate the pressure loss through each network element and the flow rate through each branch.
- Employ the model to optimize the flow balance to each burner. Calculate the size of flow restrictors to properly balance the flows.
- Evaluate system characteristics at off-design operating conditions. This sensitivity analysis is useful to fully understand the range of operation of the piping system.
