Economizer Helpers
An often neglected part of a plant, the economizer hopper is intended to capture large particles before they exit the boiler.
If the plant has an SCR, the economizer hopper plays a huge role in LPA (large particle ash) capture. But plants without SCRs need economizer hoppers to capture ash that can plug air heaters or end up in the windbox. CFD and lab modeling, along with field testing, has been used by Airflow Sciences since 1988 to optimize ash capture and save countless megawatts due to forced outages for air heaters or SCR cleaning.
