Mechanical Separators

mech

Mechanical separators are used in a variety of industries to capture particulates. Most designs induce a cyclonic or skewed flow to drive particulate away from the carrier gas stream. Cyclones and multicyclones are at the high end of the efficiency range, but sometimes low-cost devices such as drop-out boxes and baffled hoppers can be effective.

Regardless of the design, poor flow distribution through separator inlet and within the device compromises collection efficiency. CFD modeling of the separator and associated duct system allows the design to be optimized.
