Engineering Test Technician

Airflow Sciences Corporation, Livonia, Michigan, is an engineering consulting company that designs and tests a wide range of equipment. We have been in business in Michigan since 1975. Our clients contract us to optimize the design and operation of their plants and products. Major current clients include automotive OEMs and suppliers, electric power companies, pollution control manufacturers, food processing companies, HVAC engineering firms, and aerodynamic designers.

We are seeking capable, technically-oriented people with a range of skills for positions as a Test Technician and Fabricator. Duties will include measurement of air flow properties in wind tunnels, scale models and duct systems, set-up and fabrication of test fixtures and prototypes, maintenance of shop machinery, and calibration of laboratory / test equipment.

Travel may include test trips to client sites in North America to measure flow properties (velocity, pressure temperature, etc.) in their operating equipment. Frequency of travel can vary depending on client demands.

Skills and background required:

  • High school diploma and 2+ years of experience in related fields
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record
  • Demonstrated competence in a shop environment
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to travel on occasion
  • Basic computer skills (advanced hardware experience is a plus)

Candidates will have some/all of the following skills, and a desire to learn more:

  • Layout and fabrication (wood, metal, plastic, foam, and/or other materials)
  • Carpentry
  • Welding
  • Plumbing
  • Machining (mill, lathe, sheet metal, press, etc.)
  • Understanding of AC and DC electrical, wiring, soldering
  • Engine build experience including disassembling, inspecting, and reassembling engines including prototypes
  • A combination of experience and advanced training for aviation applications
  • Knowledge of electronics and instrumentation for aircraft and aerodynamic testing including pressure, flow, and/or temperature measurement
