This large 34-foot open-loop wind tunnel is designed for testing weather-facing vehicle components. The test chamber simulates rainy conditions and can produce wind speeds of up to 70 mph.
The automotive industry is investing in a new generation of wind tunnels to meet the changing landscape of vehicle design and testing. Vehicle components need to be able to operate in all weather conditions and avoid degraded performance due to wind, dust, rain, and snow. This innovative tunnel has a test section that is able to introduce water droplets, so that vehicle components can be tested in various rain conditions.
KEY FEATURES OF THIS WIND TUNNEL INCLUDE:
- A test section with full visibility and 3'x3' cross section
- Custom mounting hardware specific to the components being tested, including a rotating mechanism to adjust the yaw angle
- Nozzles in the test section for rain simulation and a closed-loop water collection system
- Flow controls for good velocity uniformity and low turbulence levels
- User control of fan speed/test velocity
This wind tunnel will allow our client, an automotive designer, to push the limits of what is possible within their own facility. With in-house testing capabilities, companies can test new designs as soon as prototypes are available, and the system can make testing easier by customizing the flow rates and data collection to the particular products being tested.
